My Angry Birds' family was featured in the Finnish newspapers and I have the text translated by Google translate :

Feeling awesome that my son's Christmas present was featured in Finnish newspapers, Nyt. Although I do not understand what is written ... but I'm just feeling happy :D

No, no and no.

Over the past year was the very thing Angry Birds , Rovio, developed by a Finnish mobile game, which has been downloaded around the world for more than 50 million times.

Authoritative Time Magazineeven opted Angry Birdsin the year 2010 as the second best video game in the world. Listing number one was, of course, the Finnish Remedy's Alan Wake .

But where Alan Wake is a model example of masterful screenwriting, isAngry Birds plot as a simple boot.

Pigs are stealing birds' eggs, birds get angry. Follow the epic battle that addictive than Paula Koivuniemi Mature woman , and apparently will never end.

No wonder that the Angry Birdsistä has become an international mega-hit.

The newest phenomenon is the AB-art.

It can be found online in various possible forms.

Buying a plush and ship it to Singapore is going to cost me much more than making one for my boy. (Shipping is 2.5 times the cost of the plush) And a custom-made with love one is always much appreciated.

It started with a round little ball, with eyes, brows, beak, hair and it turn out not too bad. I do not have much confidence in making it!

A long spiral necklace with a peyote Square link connected to two gold pewter rings. Glass flowers are added as embellishment near the rings. It's beaded in my favourite colour purple!

After much preparations, interviews, sleepless nights, worried parents. He finally got it! I am a proud mum of a 17 year old son who is at present studying Environmental & Water Technology at Ngee Ann Polytechnic.

Friends have mentioned that he is a brillant, intelligent boy. Thank you so much for the compliments.

I have to say that he was never a top student in school. Not too bad in his studies, managing top 25 in his 6 years of primary school, model pupil in P6 (did fairly well and get himself into St Andrew Sec), top 5 in Sec 1, not so good in Sec 2, top 25 in Sec 3 and didn't try his best for O level (as he got into the course in NP through DPA).

To all the teachers that have taught him, I would like to take this opportunity to thank them. Without the support and encouragment, he wouldn't have made it through.

It's been a while since I last blogged ... adjusting to new life style. But have been keeping myself busy with beading obsession. I wanted to make "Ropes and Rings" by Laura McCabe - from the Apr's issue of the B&B magazine but ended up with 3 pairs of earrings! No bracelet but I'm loving these new earrings =D

This necklace was completed on Friday evening before I embarked on the above earrings. The original design was "Cherry Blossom Bracelet" by Laura McCabe. I didn't fancy the bracelet so I transform it to this long necklace, no clasp and toggle. Just loop over the head. I love making the cherry blossom.

The 2 designs above were finished before the Chinese New Year. The necklace is a design by Lisa Kan, featured in Beadwork (Dec/Jan 2010). Bracelet is by Rachel Nelson-Smith in Beadwork (Feb/March 2010). The bracelet has taken a little longer to finish ... brick stitch. I enjoyed making the neckace, new ideas to try =)

Make this phone pouch for my son's new mobile phone. That's the solar panel on his phone. As no phone pouch was given, need to make one for it. Interesting design as the phone was made from re-cycled materials and the box that came with the phone was also recycled materials! Not so good with the stitching but I tried my best !

Beaded a bracelet from Bead & Button magazine designed by Smadar Grossman. Simply and elegant piece of design. I've used a 3 strand tube clasp rather than a 2 strand. Replaced some 11s with 2mm Swarovski crystal beads. Love the end result !

It was stressful using the 2mm as my FireLine broke couple of times... A lunar New Year accessories =)

18th ANNIVERSARY!

18 years ago on this particular day, it was my customary wedding. A traditional wedding that we chinese will have to abide with. The groom has got to fetch the bride at a "right" time to his parent's home for the tea-ceremony.

Tea-ceremony is for the newly wed to offer tea to their elders (parents, aunites, uncles, brother, sister ....). My hubby happens to be the youngest in the family and he has 6 siblings =(

After the tea-ceremony, we will move on to have photos taken outdoor we our friends and head back to the bride's parent home. Tea-ceremony again .....

Back then, we mange to have time for a afternoon nap before heading back to Raffles Hotel for our dinner. No big event, just a cosy dinner for family members =)

CHRISTMAS GIFT THROUGH SINGPOST (MODEN DAY SANTA??)

Many thanks to the modern Santa (postman) that I get my Xmas gifts through the mailbox rather than the Christmas stocking hanged on the fire place. There's no way we can have a fire place in Singapore, we are warm enough!

The calendar, towel and pot holder are from Julie (my old pal of nearly 30 years) and the cute crystal dog is from TC (beady pal plus old customer, student).

'O' level Art

This post is for my son who did his 'O' level Art this year. He had already finished his project way back in November. This little black box was submitted to the examination board along with 7 big A2 board which I managed to take photos before it's gone!

This set of printed cards was in the black box along with a set of colour pencils, I forgot to snap the content inside =(

Before he managed to finish his work, my room was in a mess for couple of weeks with paper cutter, strips of rubbish, to be finished board. This 'Art' project "killed" his and my desktop. We have since learnt our lesson ... Now he has a new desktop and I have a new iMac (good excuse to buy new gadgets!)

Most of the photos he used were took by him with some from the internet and his friends. Proper credits were given. He used his Canon D50, edited them with Photoshop.

My Epson printer is a great tool, still in good condition after his awesome project. It's already more than 6 years old (^_^)

It's a bit too small to appreciate the prints but mummy was truly amazed with his work! He was already a great photographer when he was a child using mummy's camera. Want to see more of his work, check it out here.

MY NEW OTT-LITE

Now that Ott-Lite has a rechargable battery powered lamp, I was eager to try it out as it so convenitent! I can bring my lamp round the house without searching for a power socket point. I can even bring it for my workshops at Bead Hub. No more trying to see the needle eye under those spotlight....
It's much heavier than the original lamp, just need to charge it and it can be used up to 3 hours. And the price is much more, too..... =(

This shoot was taken in the evening when I'm beading in my studio, my favourite spot of the house =)

I have been happily been using my ott-lite lamp for the past 8 years (I think... ) It's has been my most good friend when I'm beading in the night and even day time when the light is not so good. I've even used it as artifical light for shooting some of my photos and it's daylight!

This "finger-shape" thing swimming in the water was a mole from my back ... I decided to have it removed 2 weeks ago as it was getting in the way. It was on my back for at least 20 years, have been piggy-backing it.

It looks like a super BIG blackhead from my face!

I have the procedure done at National Skin Centre which took the doctor less than 30 minutes to have it punched out and closed it up with 4 stitches.

During the first night, sleeping on my back was awaken with pain in the middle of the night. Luckily the pain slowly goes away. For 2 weeks, I was not able to bend, carry heavy things and washing my hair was terrible!

I have to lived with the 4 stitches for the past 2 weeks. As my skin is SUPER sensitive and have a plaster over the wounds is terrible for me. Rashes was developed over time and I was trying to scratch it... made it worst!

Yah! The stitches was removed yesterday and wound is healing nicely except rashes all round it due to the long hours of covered plaster... It's going to take couple of weeks before my back will be back to normal (^___^)

HOW MESSY CAN MY WORK ROOM BE ....

I am one of those lucky lady to have her own room for beading. Book shelves packed with books, magazines, kits and instructions. Trays and boxes of beads, thread, findings .... but then how messy can my workroom be ?? I had to work in this messy room for the last 10 days as my boy was rushing to finish his O level Art and prep work to be submitted on 22 Sept.

Camera stand, paper cutter, printed photos, A2 board, files ..... So messy (*_*")

This was just behind my work table.

My work desk, with my half done instructions, beads lying around, checking emails..... A messy sight when new design is under construction =) Love it cos it shows that I'm really working ! I have a very little space to move about the last few days.

This little black box is the completed O level Art work ready to be submitted tomorrow. I'm not supposed to show what's inside this little black box as it will be sent to the Ministry for marking. Good luck to my boy!

I will load the content of the black box and his prep work later the year, come back and check with he has done, thank you for dropping my!

BEADY STUFF NEEDED BEFORE HITTING THE PROJECT

What do you need before embarking on beadweaving?
I'm not a very organised beader, my design all started from a vision in my brain. I'll just make changes as I start beading, the needle is my pen. It's always good to have a table with the right lighting. A comfortable chair as you will most properly be spending hours there!

Do not bead in dim area as it's bad for the eyes. I used my Ott-Lite whenever I'm beading, it's a great lamp for beaders and even reading !

LIGHT

BEADING MAT
Many surfaces have been chosen to be used, my favourite is the beading mat as the beads doesn't roll about when I'm beading. Beads are easily being picked up.

NEEDLES
There are many choices of beading needles. From size 10 to 15 for most beading projects. I usually uses size 12 for most of my beading projects. For size 10 and 11, for bead embroidery and size 15 for the really tiny 15 beads and charlotte beads.

SCISSORS
Choose a pair of sharp scissors, as we do not want the thread to fray before we even start on beading. I have 2 photos below, the one on tChe left I used it to cut my beading thread. The one on the right, I used it to cut FireLine.

Having problem cutting the thread in tight places, I used my home-made thread burner to "cut" off my finished thread ends. Here's how it look like =D It's battery-operated and produced a tiny melted blob thus preventing the thread from fraying.

BEADING WAX
What do you do when your thread start fraying ? Do you noticed that thread usually fray when you undone your piece of work ? Fred not, just run your thread throught the wax and the thread can be used to finish your whole piece of work. Or you want a tighter tension but can't seem to pull tight, use your wax. My favourite wax is the micro-crystalline wax shown below. It's good, doesn't dry up and can be used for a pretty long time! It was recommened to me by Cynthia Rutledge and Laura McCabe.

What is beading ?

Beading is attaching beads to one another, to cloth or any other form of materials. Usually using needle with thread, wire, mono-filament (commonly known as transparent thread). Finished beadwork can be in the form of jewellery, bags, shoes, clothes, sculputre and ornament.....

Techniques available:
There are bead knitting, bead crochet, bead stringing, beadweaving (off-loom), loom and bead embroidery.

It had been a while since I last done a design from the Bead & Button magazine. I love bracelet and this design catch my eyes when the magazine arrives at my place. This issue arrived in a pretty special way, it was left on my gate rather than in my mail box.... lucky for me that my neighbours are not interested in beading =)

This design calls for 8s and RAW (right angle weave). I choose a pink/mauve colour theme since it's one of my favourite! Although RAW it's one of my least favourite stitch, I manged to finish it =D

Took these photos on my way home yesterday evening. It was one of those lousy day (bad moods) but when I lift my head to see the sky, saw these beautiful clouds staring out at me. Remind me of marshmallow and candy floss.

WATER WALLY

Water Wally, a mascot of the PUB. I've created this little fella as my son has been involved in St Andrew Seconday School's water project since his first year there.

The original Water Wally has a pair of hands and legs but the one I created do not have them as I want it to look like a water droplet and remind myself that water is precious.

Creating Water Wally was from the Ghoulish that I have created in a new project that I have been working on for the last few months. The idea struck my boy when I finished working on Ghoulish (seen below) and he was asking mummy to create Water Wally for him. He has seen the mascot way to many times, and wishes to have one done by ME!

This Goulish was beaded with the help of my boy's real Ghoulish from TY. I did a smaller version of it and it will be a new member of my beaded bead family. (",)

Nana from Roomism.net had her Fabric Fun World Stage Dolls Exhibtion 2009 at MAAD just last 2 weeks. I was "crazy" in love with her dolls and decided to try my hands at making my own.
With Nana's patience, and a four hours of sitting at the cafe. I finished the dolls without "poking" my fingers (I'm an expert at needle working, yah!).

I have beading with my left hand (no worries, I was not injured) just that the above piece of gorgeous work designed by Elizabeth Weaver requires me to weave with 2-needle RAW (right angle weave). This is my first attempt working with 2 needles and I have never ever imagine myself holding 2 needles at the same time. (I think I look like a robot beading with 2 hands)

I was pretty good at picking crystals with my left hand, didn't send the crystals flying round my room =D A heavy piece of necklace !

I named it COTTON CANDY as someone on FB told me that Swarovski crystal are like candy, never too much to have them !

What happen on my non-beading days ?? No needle ... but with Swarovksi crystal, mono-filament thread and a book with Japanese instructions. Thanks to Yumiko Maki's designs, the above motifs are easy to made! I love the Japanese diagrams (I don't read the instructions).

I was trying to make a tiger but seems like the result is terrible, a dog with tiger skin ... =D I still love it, so cute !

The wooden bunny is an egg holder ... Hah! Julie knows I love bunny and monkey. So she got me the cute little key ring and a sheet of stickers full of monkey! Maybe she think I nag too much nowadays... so trying to bring me back to my childhood =D

This is not a scarf... it's a FUROSHIKI. A Japanese wrapping cloth, click on the link to read more about it. Before I knew it was a furoshiki, was thinking of using it as a scarf. It's pretty big ! (can wrap myself, LOL)

SMUDGIE

Smudgie is my dear old pal, Julie's pet cat. He is now sick and need to be treated at the vet..... :(

Smudgie will be about 12years old this year. He has always been a big boy, weighing about 6.2kg :) During that time when my place was undergoing HDB upgrading and I had to board him at the clinic as he’s really quite the easily-frightened one among my cats, he was found to have kidney problems. He started on a special diet and all was fine for a while. Then he stopped eating suddenly… Another visit to the vet shows he’s anaemic as due to his kidney problem, the kidneys do not produce a certain hormone for generating red blood cells and so his blood count dropped drastically. The vet can’t tell why he’s ill again although he’s been eating the special diet for kidney cats but older cats do tend to have more health problems. Poor boy is still hospitalized at the clinic now and undergoing hormone treatment by injections. He will need to have ongoing hormone injections and fluid therapy for quite a period of time until he’s stabilized. It’s such a heartache to see him sick. His appetite has dropped drastically too and now he’s only about 5.6kg. As long as he can live and eat happily and do not suffer for whatever amount of time he has left, here on earth with us, I will not ask for more…

I knew Julie for more than 30 years..... long way to come. What's the best gift I can gave ? My own creation of course! And I know Julie will like it (I hope so ...) So this is the black cat I design and made for her. I gave Julie the honour of choosing the cat's name and was told by her that her darling is pretty sick .... so here's hoping this little charm black cat will bring Smudgie some luck and may he be back home soon (^_^)

The UPS was at the door yesterday afternoon. (I don't remember having any shipments from the United States ??) Oh mind, a parcel from Bead & Button... and I have it opened! Yah! My necklace is back from the States, from the B&B office. And a complimentary copy of the magazine came along =D

I only opened the parcel this afternoon while watching CSI ..... Sweet dreams tonight (",)

Another competition ... was what Julie said to me the other day. I told her that I was attracted to the Levis' "Design a shoe box" because the first prize is a pair of return tickets to Tokyo! I spent couple of days designing it and while it didn't get into finals. Not a problem, was having fun decorating it =D

WiiFit ! A birthday gift from my boy, was delighted to see the box laying in the living room and the best was that it was already opened; my son was playing with it. =( I didn't get the chance to open my brithday present ..... I love to open present!

The Wii was given to me just 5 days before my birthday. Great present, not too bad ! My hubby brought me to Hans for dinner on birthday eve but the food tasted awful, yucks... never going to go back that branch!

This is my favourite food, chillies crab! Best of all, he cooked it for me, yummy .. yummy ..! Too much, can't finish.... no; I can't waste it, finished everything of it =)

Yukari sent me a present, all the way from Yokohama! This time I get to open my package, so nice of her to remember my special day! I love Japanese crackers, the wrapper and the goodies inside, yah! Oh! I forget to take a pic of the scarf she sent along. Will post it another day then...

BINGLICIOUS BANGLE

Finished this bangle about 2 weeks ago, was too busy with beading and sorting out paperwork that I've forgotton to upload it ......

I've used the 2.5mm 5301 Swarovski crystal and the multi-coloured yarns (complimentary from Fujix, Japan) to crochet this beautiful bangle. I'm loving it (^_^) !

Lovely yarn to use, goes well with the Swarovski but not the 11s. I've choosen the Crystal colour beads to see through the yarn. Here's the yarn that I have used on the bangle.

The bangle looks pretty to have it on Ghoulish's neck (if he has one ...hee hee!), the new owner of Blinglicious Bangle!

ON A NON-BEADWEAVING DAY

What happen on my non-beadweaving days???? I love beadweaving, more than anything else on planet earth. But occasionally, when I'm feel like taking a break from my beads, I'll do other craft. I'm not really that fantastic at knitting and crocheting, still need some practicing on them.

This lonely bear is done with knitting. Was my very first knitted animal done many years back before I started on beadweaving. Love it =D

These 2 tops are done over the last 6 months. Juggling between my beadweaving, crochet and knitting. The grey crocheted top was my very first wearable as I do more animals and bags. I just completed the orange knitted top on the left last Friday. The last piece I did was like more than 10 years ago. I was trying to re-called back my knowledge of knitting which I started back during my college days......

That's all for my knitting and crochet for the time being, back to beadweaving with more creative ideas and maybe start planning for the Bead Dreams next year.

Was overwhelmed with joy when I received these books from the Fedex delivery! Flipping through them was really oh mind! They are my new favourite for the time-being as I am supposingly to be working on my bracelet from the Bead & Button magazine but I don't think I will be able to concentrate .....

This new book from Diane is simply ...... fabulous! My fingers are itching to just try any of the projects inside. But then .... getting the materials for the projects, ok got to crack my head again =D

This book by Judy Walker is really detailed. Before I get hold of the book, was always wondering how to get the beads right to make the shape I wanted. Now I know ! Heavy book .......

Although this book has no instructions inside but looking at all the great bead artist works, gives me so much more inspiration to work hard. Wish that 1 day will get my work published in there !

Solar eclipse on the first day of the Chinese New Year ..... pretty interesting !

But am so disappointed as the sky was so cloudy =(

The picture on the left was taken at 4.58pm on Monday, 26 Jan 2009. The starting of the eclipse and the picture on the right was a fish shaped cloud covering the sun =D (like a big whale eating up the sun, hee hee)

Lion dance and dragons will be the main tradition celebration throughout the Chinese New Year celebration for the next 15 days. This troupe was here at my next block coffee-shop performing. One man was trying to grap hold of the four storey high flag !

NEW NECKLACE FOR LUNAR NEW YEAR

Completed this necklace on Lunar New Year's eve, was rushing and cleaning the house at the same time. Wow! I did it.....

Wanted to do the design from Feb's B&B magazine but then it didn't turn out like the magazine cos I used the round Swarovski crystal with glass pearls and I sort of change the layout of the original necklace =) So happy with the new necklace ! Got to wear it today, Ya !
